MUST WIN

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has said that the match against QPR during the weekend is a must win for the club in their hopes of avoiding relegation. After a poor second half of the season, Stoke City are extremely close to the relegation zone.

This has led to a lot of pressure from the fans demanding the departure of Tony Pulis, who has not only guided the club into the Premier league but has also kept them in it for several seasons now. However, Stoke have been looking devoid of ideas throughout the season.

Adam, who has not scored a Premier league goal for several months now, has spoken about the importance of getting three points against QPR. He has said that Stoke’s relegation problems will almost be put to bed if they secured three points in the match. However, it will not be easy to do so because Stoke come on the back of just one Premier league win since the turn of the year. They have also managed to secure just five points in the last few months. The club come on the back of the 2-0 defeat against Manchester United last weekend, and Adam has said that it is never easy when they concede an early goal against United.

“It’s a sore one to take but there’s five games to go and we need a couple of victories. We need to go to QPR next week and win. They’re in a bad position so it’s probably going to be an edgy match but they’re at home and if we can stop them in the first 15 or 20 minutes getting the crowd up then we can go there and get a victory. We were in the mix last week and we’re in the mix again this week,” said Adam.

REVENGE MISSION

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

The Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has said that he wants Scotland to get revenge for the 2-1 defeat suffered at the hands of Wales last year. Due to the incredible performance from the Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale, Scotland suffered a shock defeat against Wales in October last year. Charlie Adam was responsible for the late winner from Bale, and the midfielder is keen to make up for his mistake by getting revenge for this defeat when the two teams meet each other when the World Cup qualifying resumes in March. Scotland come into the match on the back of two victories in the recent friendly matches against Luxembourg and Estonia.

Hence, Adam has said that confidence is extremely high with the Scotland team especially after the arrival of the new manager Gordon Strachan. Scotland managed to start the new era under Gordon Strachan with the victory over Luxembourg. They followed the victory with another convincing 1-0 win against Estonia. Adam has said that the two points earned by Scotland in the group stages is certainly not good enough. They need to pick up points as soon as possible in order to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Adam has praised the arrival of Strachan as the Scotland manager.

“Cardiff still hurts, we should have won the game in Wales. A bad decision went against us. We have only two points and we know it’s not good enough, but in the next couple of games we can put that right. Now the new manager has come in, he wants to change a bit. We’re in a good moment right now,” said the Stoke City midfielder. Aside from the match against Wales, this international round of fixtures will also see Scotland taking on Serbia in an away match in March.

UNLIKELY TO SPEND

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

The Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has confirmed that he is unlikely to spend any money in the upcoming January transfer window. The club are currently ninth in the Premier league table and the manager has stressed the importance of gradual development. Many clubs in the Premier league have started spending a lot of money in the hope of reaching bigger and better things in a quick manner. Even though Pulis has spent a lot of money in recent seasons on players like Peter Crouch, Wilson Palacios, and Robert Huth, the club has also invested heavily in aspects like the training ground and the youth academy.

They have been able to consistently avoid in a relegation dogfight since being promoted to the Premier league for a few seasons ago. Due to the consistent revenue from the TV money of the Premier league, they have been able to invest substantially in other areas of the club. Pulis spent only just under £ 6 million in the summer bringing in two players. The club have one of the best defensive records in the league after they have allowed just 13 goals in 18 Premier league matches, but they have struggled to score goals. It was expected that Pulis will be bringing in an attacking signing, but the manager has confirmed that he will not.

“We have a plan, and it’s gradual and gradual. It’s not one we’re going to throw loads and loads of money at and then get caught with our pants down. We’ve spent on and off the pitch and we’re continuing at the moment. We’ve got a new build at the training ground and it’s going to cost us a lot of money. The structure of the team is very organised,” said Pulis, whose team are level on points with Liverpool in the table.

PULIS BACKS ADAM

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

The Stoke city manager Tony Pulis has said that he is confident that the midfielder Charlie Adam will be able to score a lot of goals for the club this season. Tony Pulis managed to secure the services of the former Rangers and Blackpool midfielder from Liverpool for around £ 4 million in the summer. He has had a great start to his Stoke city career, although they are yet to win matches on a consistent basis. Stoke city have become the draw specialists in the Premier league this season, as they have been held to 6 stalemates so far this campaign.

The recently could manage only a 0-0 draw against Sunderland at home, which disappointed Tony Pulis. However, he is extremely delighted at the performances of the Scottish midfielder, who was once again extremely influential for Stoke city in the 4-2 defeat against Manchester United last weekend. His performances almost helped Stoke city get an unlikely win at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old has not been in great goalscoring form since last season, as he could manage only two goals in 27 matches for Liverpool. Pulis, however, is hoping that he rediscovers his scoring touch for Stoke city this season.

“Last week was Charlie’s best game. What we need to do with Charlie – and Michael Kightly – is integrate them into the system we want to play when we don’t have the ball. He’s a very good player and been great around the place with a bubbly attitude. We are also hoping we get goals off him as well,” said the Stoke city manager ahead of the match with Sunderland during the weekend. Sunderland came into the match with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Stephen Fletcher as the only goal scorer in all competitions this season. Fletcher was signed for £ 14 million in the summer.
